The
Most Valuable Tool
The
Process
Fire , Smoke, Noise and Rust .
"Total
immersion in the process is what keeps me going. The finished sculpture is
just a bonus ."
Being
engulfed in a shower of hot sparks, surrounded by the "perfume"
of burning steel and flux while listening to the music of the crackling hissing
torch is always a heady experience.
There's nothing quite
like starring in your own
fireworks show.
" An Open Mind "
It's
all about the process. Figuring out how to make all the pieces tell the story
you want to tell.
Where
It All Begins !
100 potential masterpieces
in this pile alone. If it can be welded, glued, nailed, riveted or screwed
it can be used for sculpture.
"
The Trained Eye "
It's All About Seeing
Recognizing the
potential of any given part
and having the vision to see how it fits into the sculpture. Teaching yourself
to see shapes from
any angle even when piled and entangled with lots
of other things.Training the eye to discriminate
between the useless and the useful.
The "potential"
of a discarded piece of metal to be combined with other discards and to emerge
as a piece of art is what interests me. Bringing back things people have discarded
and presenting them in a new way .
Turning discards into something
people value is exciting.
